According to Axios, which quoted a senior American official, Steve Witkoff—Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East and head of the U.S. negotiation team with Iran—warned senior Republican senators in private last week that if Israel bombs Iran’s nuclear facilities, Iran could respond with significantly greater losses.

Witkoff rang the alarm bell about what might happen in the future. He said that Iran’s retaliation could break through Israel’s defenses.
The United States is concerned that Israel’s aerial defense system may not be able to handle Iran’s response, which could include hundreds of missiles.
According to estimates by U.S. intelligence, Iran possesses 2,000 ballistic missiles capable of carrying 2,000 pounds or more of explosives. Israel lies within the range of many of these missiles.
The CENTCOM commander is expected to travel to Israel to negotiate with senior political and military officials regarding Iran.
