According to the Persian edition of ISNA, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders wrote in his message:
“Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, started this war with a unilateral surprise attack on Iran that has already killed hundreds and injured many more. This attack was specifically designed to sabotage American diplomatic efforts.”
Quoting the U.S. Senate news outlet, he continued:
“Israel assassinated Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator despite negotiations with the United States being scheduled for Sunday. This assault is a clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.”
Sanders added:
“The United States must not be dragged into yet another one of Netanyahu’s wars—neither militarily nor financially. The U.S. Constitution is crystal clear: no offensive use of military force against Iran or any other country is permissible without explicit congressional authorization. No such authorization exists, and any involvement would be illegal. Congress must not capitulate on a matter of such enormous consequence.”
In the remainder of his statement, reacting to the Israeli attacks on Iran, Sanders said:
“Let us remember who Benjamin Netanyahu is: a war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court for using starvation as a method of warfare and directing attacks against civilians in Gaza. At this very moment, in Gaza, Israel continues to block humanitarian aid from reaching starving civilians provided by the UN and other aid organizations. In just the past two weeks, Israeli forces have killed hundreds of civilians attempting to access aid distribution sites.”
Sanders concluded:
“Netanyahu’s illegal and unilateral strikes on Iran are a serious violation of international law. The United States must not be a part of this war.”
