United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly criticized military strikes conducted by the United States on Iranian territory, characterizing them as a direct endangerment to international peace and stability.
In a post published on X platform during the early hours of Sunday, Guterres expressed his deep concern, stating: “I am profoundly disturbed by the United States’ use of military force against Iran today. This represents a perilous escalation in an already volatile region and poses a direct threat to international peace and security.”
The UN leader warned of the potential for rapid deterioration, noting: “There is an increasing danger that this confrontation could quickly spiral beyond control, resulting in catastrophic impacts on civilian populations, regional stability, and global security.”
Guterres urged immediate action from the international community, declaring: “I appeal to all Member States to pursue de-escalation and honor their commitments under the UN Charter and established principles of international law.”
Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, the Secretary-General stressed: “In this critical moment, it is essential to prevent a descent into chaos.”
He concluded his statement by rejecting military approaches to the crisis, asserting: “No military solution exists for this conflict. The sole viable path forward lies in diplomatic engagement. Our only prospect for resolution is through peace.”
