According to the Persian edition of ISNA, in recent days, following the aggressive U.S. strike on Iran, many claims have been made regarding the status of Iran’s nuclear program.
In response to numerous reports published by American media outlets, U.S. President Donald Trump, in addition to calling for the expulsion of journalists from these outlets, claimed that Iran’s nuclear facilities had been “completely destroyed.”
However, in a recent report published Thursday, Foreign Affairs asserted: “Despite American attacks, Iran has preserved the potential of its nuclear program.”
The journal refers to the initial report from the U.S. intelligence community, which indicates that the American strikes have only set Iran’s nuclear program back by a few months — rejecting Trump’s claim that the program had been delayed by “several decades.”
Foreign Affairs noted that it cannot be said the bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities caused irreparable damage.
The American journal further emphasized: “Iran has the capability to recover from the damage. Tehran can continue to develop its nuclear program in more secure, protected locations.”
In conclusion, Foreign Affairs wrote: “Iran will no longer agree to negotiate with the United States regarding its nuclear file, as Washington has entirely eroded the Iranian side’s trust through its attacks.”
The American journal’s report on Iran’s distrust of the U.S. comes as earlier, during a Wednesday press conference in The Hague, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed: “We will meet with the Iranians next week. Iran’s nuclear program has been destroyed. We don’t need a deal with Iran.”
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who stood alongside Trump, added: “The United States seeks peaceful relations with all countries. Iran must negotiate directly with the U.S. Trump wants peace.”
Trump reiterated: “We’re meeting with the Iranians next week. Maybe we’ll sign an agreement with them — maybe not. I don’t care and don’t think it’s necessary. They had a war, they fought, and they came back to the world. Whether we reach a deal or not doesn’t matter. The only thing that mattered to me was Iran’s nuclear program — and now we’ve destroyed it.”
