ASEAN calls for extension of ceasefire between Iran, Israel

According to the joint statement of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) called on both the Israeli regime and Iran to continue observing the ceasefire agreed upon on June 24.

The statement reads:
“We expressed our concern over the escalating tensions in the Middle East since June 13, 2025, and welcomed the ceasefire between Israel and Iran on June 24, 2025. We urged all parties to respect the ceasefire and refrain from any actions that could further aggravate the conflict.”

 “We reiterated the commitment of all countries to resolve their disputes through peaceful means and to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, in accordance with international law, including the UN Charter.”

In another section of the concluding statement, the ASEAN foreign ministers further declared:
“We also reaffirmed our commitment to the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in armed conflicts in line with international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. We expressed our support for ongoing efforts, including those led by the United Nations, aimed at de-escalating tensions and facilitating the resumption of constructive engagement between the parties involved.”
