The head of the Chemical Industries Research Group at the Academic Jihad Organization announced that the organization has successfully designed and built an indigenous industrial supercapacitor, placing Iran among the five countries that possess this technology.
Nourali Mohammadi, head of the Chemical Industries Development Research Institute at Academic Jihad, said that his institute has developed a domestically produced industrial supercapacitor, making Iran the fifth country in the world to achieve this technology.
Highlighting the significance of this accomplishment, he noted that until now, the know-how for producing industrial supercapacitors was exclusively held by four countries—Canada, South Korea, China, and the United States. According to Mohammadi, they have managed to produce a laboratory model of the product with quality comparable to highly advanced foreign versions.
Wide applications of industrial supercapacitors
The head of the Inorganic Chemistry Research Group stated that the product can be used in electric vehicles, elevators, and wind turbines. He added that these supercapacitors have a long physical lifespan of about 10 years and a cycle life of over one million cycles. Compared to conventional batteries, they can release stored energy in a much shorter time.
Regarding the challenges of manufacturing this product, Mohammadi stressed that developing an industrial supercapacitor has been far from simple. He emphasized that to continue development and move toward mass production and commercialization, support from both private and public sector investors is essential.
