Iranian director donates international prize to the children of Gaza

Ashkan Shapouri won the Best Director award at the Milan Film Festival for his film The Last Tango with Pari (Ghesseye Pari). This marks his latest honor for the work, following the Best Screenplay award at the Athens Film Festival.

Shapouri later donated his prize to the children of Gaza in recognition of their resilience.
The jury at the Milan Film Festival described Shapouri’s direction as “classic and flawlessly ambitious,” noting its ability to create powerful dramatic situations, and awarded him the festival’s special Best Director prize.
The Last Tango with Pari, a dark and romantic drama, holds the record in Hollywood, Los Angeles, for winning awards in 11 artistic categories. It tells the story of Mahour, a theatre make-up artist who cares for his father suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Ashkan Shapouri has won and been nominated for multiple international awards from festivals including Route 66 (U.S.), the Athens International Film Festival, Hollywood Los Angeles, and Love and Wales International Film Festival.
