Renowned Iranian vocalist Homayoun Shajarian is set to perform a free street concert at Tehran’s Azadi Square this Friday — the largest of its kind in the country’s history.

Hamayoun Shajarian, a well-known Iranian vocalist, who was scheduled to hold the largest-ever free street concert in Iran’s history at Azadi Tower, announced that the event has been cancelled due to the organizers’ inability to ensure public safety.
Shajarian wrote on his Instagram account: “Our instruments still have not been transferred to the venue, and it seems the organizers have no plan to provide security for the attendees.”
Had the concert taken place, it would have been the largest free concert ever held in Iran.

Homayoun Shajarian, the son of the legendary Mohammad Reza Shajarian — widely celebrated as the master of Iran’s traditional music — has earned recognition for his unique voice and artistry.
Like his father, Homayoun specializes in traditional Iranian vocal styles, known as Dastgah-e Mousighi. However, he has also released popular pop songs that have been warmly received by audiences.
Shajarian had announced that he is determined to stage the biggest open-air concert Iran has ever seen.
