Kazem Jalali said on Monday that the delegation’s trip aims to finalize previous agreements in the energy sector, particularly on pricing. He noted that once an agreement is reached, the first phase of the joint project could become operational within months.
Jalali linked the planned visit to President Pezeshkian’s recent trip to China and his extensive talks with Putin, stressing that the decision for the Russian delegation’s visit was one of the key outcomes of those negotiations.
He expressed hope that implementing these agreements would pave the way for Russian gas transfers to Iran and usher in a new phase of bilateral energy cooperation.
The ambassador also highlighted the broader potential of the Iran-Russia partnership, citing last year’s signing of the Strategic Cooperation Document. He underlined the importance of free trade agreements with neighboring countries, noting that such pacts create valuable opportunities for Iranian businesses to expand their markets.
Jalali further pointed to Russia’s strong demand in the construction sector, citing the recent completion of more than 320,000 housing units in Chechnya as an indicator of the country’s vast needs. He called for greater participation by Iranian companies, stressing the importance of meeting Russia’s high technical standards, which he said could be achieved through domestic training.
Despite existing challenges and external pressures, Jalali emphasized that Iran and Russia’s economic relations are strategic and have deep historical roots. He urged serious efforts to remove domestic obstacles and encouraged the private sector to take a more active role in realizing the two countries’ economic potential.
