Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Doha, Qatar, to participate in and deliver a speech at an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, upon his arrival in Doha. The two parties discussed several issues during the visit. Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, is accompanying the president on the trip.

The meeting, held at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar, is aimed at discussing Israel’s recent aggression under the pretext of assassinating Hamas leaders who had gathered in Doha to review the U.S. proposal for a truce between Hamas and Israel.

The conference will be attended by the Arab League as well as representatives from OIC member states.
Israel also launched waves of attacks on Iran on June 13, killing civilians and military commanders and destroying many civilian structures.
President Pezeshkian, ahead of his trip to Doha, called for unity and cohesion among Muslim nations in the face of Israel’s expansionist goals. He will also deliver a speech at the conference.

President Pezeshkian heads to Qatar for Arab-Islamic emergency summit

President Masoud Pezeshkian has headed to Qatar to attend an Arab-Islamic emergency summit which is held in the wake of growing Israeli aggression in the West Asia region.

The Iranian president left Tehran for Doha on Monday morning. In the Qatari capital, he will join other heads of state from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League (AL) for an emergency summit scheduled for later in the day.

The summit follows a preparatory meeting by foreign ministers of the OIC and the Arab League. That meeting was held on Sunday, in which Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi took part.

The summit is held at the request of Qatar after Israel attacked the Arab country last Tuesday.

The regime struck the headquarters of top officials of the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, in Doha in an attempt to assassinate them who had gathered to review the latest US proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The Doha summit also comes as Israel is escalating its military operations in the Gaza Strip where it is pressing ahead with a plan to occupy Gaza City, and continues to take civilian lives. Israel has killed more than 64,800 people and injured over 164,200 others in Gaza since it invaded the Palestinian territory on October 7, 2023. Women and children make up most of the casualties, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
