Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the foreign ministers of France, Germany, the United Kingdom, as well as the EU High Representative, held a joint phone call to discuss the nuclear issue and the lifting of unjust sanctions against Iran.
In the call, Iran’s Foreign Minister, referring to Iran’s principled stance on the importance of maintaining dialogue and diplomacy to prevent rising tensions, described the action of the three European countries to reinstate previously lifted UN Security Council sanctions as lacking any legal or rational justification. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran has responsibly engaged in dialogue with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and has drafted a clear protocol regarding how Iran will fulfill its safeguard obligations under the new circumstances. He stressed that all parties must recognize the significance and value of this measure. Now it is the turn of the other parties to use this opportunity to continue the diplomatic path, avoid an avoidable crisis, and demonstrate seriousness and commitment to diplomacy.
Araqchi underlined that Iran is ready to reach a fair and balanced solution that ensures mutual benefits; achieving such a goal requires a responsible approach by the three European countries, independent of influence from actors who place no value on diplomacy or the principles and rules of international law.
During the phone call, mutual views and proposals for continuing diplomacy were exchanged.
