Iranian cinematographer wins prestigious international award

Darius Khondji, an Iranian-born cinematographer, has received the special Golden Camera 300 award for his lifetime achievements in cinema at the 46th Manaki Brothers International Cinematographers’ Film Festival.

Khondji has worked for decades as a director of photography and was nominated for an Academy Award in 1996 for Evita, directed by Alan Parker. Renowned for collaborating with a wide range of directors across diverse cinematic styles, he is regarded as one of the most prominent cinematographers worldwide.

He has worked with acclaimed filmmakers such as Jean-Pierre Jeunet, David Fincher, Bernardo Bertolucci, Michael Haneke, Danny Boyle, Sidney Pollack, Woody Allen, and James Gray. In recent years, he was the cinematographer for Bardo by Alejandro González Iñárritu and Mickey 17 by Bong Joon-ho.

The Manaki Brothers International Festival, dedicated to the art and craft of cinematography, is taking place in North Macedonia from September 20 to October 26.
