The award, regarded as one of the festival’s most prestigious honors, recognizes outstanding contributions to the growth and cultural impact of Asian cinema. Panahi, acclaimed for films such as The White Balloon, The Mirror, The Circle, and Taxi, has previously won numerous international awards and is considered one of the most influential voices in contemporary world cinema.
In addition, Iranian director Heyman Khaledi received the award for Best Asian Documentary for his film Singing Wings, a co-production of Georgia, Belgium, and Iran. The prize includes a $7,000 cash award.
