“The reinstatement of U.N. sanctions does not mean the end of diplomacy,” the joint statement by those three European powers said on Monday afternoon, according to Reuters.
“We urge Iran to refrain from any escalatory actions and to resume compliance with its legally binding obligations regarding safeguards,” they further said.
Iran, along with Russia and China, considered the activation of the so-called snapback mechanism to return the sanctions on Tehran to be an illegal action as those European trio did not abide by their obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal after the illegal US withdrawal in May 2018.
Iran sees the snapback of the sanctions as less effective and futile as it has grown too skillful in circumventing the US sanctions that overlap almost all those international sanctions.
