Amir Roshanbakhsh Qanbari, Deputy for International Business Promotion at the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, said the snapback mechanism will not impact Iran’s free trade relations with the Eurasian Economic Union and announced that measures are being developed to maintain trade ties with international partners after its implementation.
He told Mehr News Agency that no major change is expected in Iran’s free trade with Eurasia or Pakistan, noting that divisions among countries over compliance with certain decisions have weakened the snapback’s impact.
Roshanbakhsh Qanbari added that the organization has devised strategies to minimize potential damage to Iran’s preferential and other trade agreements, particularly in goods trade, aiming to ensure the highest level of commodity exchanges continues.
Explaining the nature of preferential trade, he said it allows balancing trade through tariff adjustments, adding, “We may lower tariffs for some countries, raise them for others, or even impose higher tariffs on a third country to restore the desired balance.”
He concluded that the Trade Promotion Organization has multiple tools in place to manage these challenges and continues to pursue its goals of preserving and expanding Iran’s international trade relations.
