Iran’s Gharibshahi breaks para powerlifting world record

 Iran’s Ali Akbar Gharibshahi has won the gold medal in the men’s 107 kg category at the 2025 World Para Powerlifting Championships in Egypt, setting a new world record.

On the fifth day of the competition on Thursday, Gharibshahi successfully lifted 252 kg in his first attempt. He then broke the world record by lifting 255 kg in his second attempt, securing the gold medal. He failed to lift 260 kg in his third attempt but maintained his lead to claim the title.

The Iranian team, coached by Hossein Tavakoli and Ahmad Mollahosseini, also includes Hassan Pashapour, Alireza Izadi, Mohsen Bakhtiar, Amir Jafari, Ruhollah Rostami, Saeed Eskandarzadeh, Ali Asghar Abaroghi, Mobin Mohammadi, Mehdi Sayyadi, and Ahmad Aminzadeh.
