Ali Larijani made the remarks in a joint press conference with Qasim Al-Araji, Secretary of the Iraqi National Security Council in Tehran on Monday.
In the start of his remarks, the top Iranian security official referred to the June US-Israeli agression against Iran during which the aggressor warplanes violated the Iraqi airspace, stressing that “As Mr. Al-Araji said, Iraq does not want this to happen; this is an example of America’s behavior towards independent countries including Iraq, which does not allow its space to be at their disposal, and that is all Mr. Al-Araji said, but they (America) are abusing it. Even though the Iraqi government is independent, America does not allow it and is abusing the political and security space of this country.”
As regars the goals of his recent trips to various countries, including Russia, Larijani said, “Each of these trips has its own philosophy, but overall, all efforts are aimed at finding a solution to resolve issues and problems.”
The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council clarified about the cooperation between Iran and the IAEA after the snapback was triggered by the three European members of the JCPOS and the Cairo agreement between Iran and the Agency, saying that, “Mr. Araghchi announced after the Cairo agreement that if they activate the snapback, the agreement will be null and void, and that’s what happened. Well, they should have refrained from triggering the mechanism. If the IAEA has a proposal for cooperation, it should request it to be reviewed by a committee in the SNSC.”
He attached great imposrtance to security ties with neighboring Iraq, saying that “If we want our economic relations with Iraq to remain stable, our security issues must also be resolved.”
