Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji has met and held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on Monday.

Earlier on Monday, al-Araji met Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Larijani, Al-Araji said Baghdad had repeatedly affirmed that it would not permit any country to exploit Iraq’s borders or airspace for hostile actions against Iran.

He said the two sides also discussed regional stability, emphasizing the need to prevent “certain parties” from undermining security in the region.

Iraq fully committed to security pact with Iran, says national security adviser

Iraq remains fully committed to its security agreement with Iran and will not allow its territory or airspace to be used against its eastern neighbor, Iraq’s National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji said during a visit to Tehran on Monday.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, al-Araji said Baghdad had repeatedly affirmed that it would not permit any country to exploit Iraq’s borders or airspace for hostile actions against Iran.

He said the two sides also discussed regional stability, emphasizing the need to prevent “certain parties” from undermining security in the region.

“The Iraqi government is fully committed to the security agreement signed between Iraq and Iran,” al-Araji said.

He noted that 77 border sites had been cleared of armed elements and placed under Iraqi government control, and that both countries agreed to form a subcommittee to monitor implementation of the deal. “Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani is also committed to these accords, and $11 million has been allocated to establish eight camps to house anti-Iran groups.”

Al-Araji said Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had reiterated that Iran’s security is integral to Iraq’s security, stressing that another regional conflict would serve no one’s interests.

He also backed the right of all nations to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, saying Iran’s nuclear issue should be resolved through dialogue.
