Avash News: On the final day of the competition, Sajjad Abbaspour claimed the silver medal in the 60 kg category, while Abolfazl Mehdipour earned a bronze medal in the 82 kg class.
In the 60 kg final, Sajjad Abbaspour was defeated by Japan’s Koto Gomi with a decisive 9–0 score, settling for silver. Earlier, Abbaspour had defeated Mert Yilbars of Turkey (6–0) in the opening round, Ilya Paniotin of Russia (7–1) in the second round, and Ilkin Gurbanov of Azerbaijan (7–1) in the quarterfinals. He then overcame Mehrukh Bahramov of Uzbekistan (5–3) in the semifinals to reach the gold medal match.
In the 82 kg bronze-medal bout, Abolfazl Mehdipour beat Data Chkhaidze of Georgia 10–3 to secure third place. Mehdipour had earlier lost 4–3 to Ruslan Abdiyev of Ukraine in the first round and dropped to the repechage bracket, where he defeated Maimaiti Abudushalamu of China (9–1) and Beka Melilashvili of the USA (13–4) to reach the bronze match.
By the end of the tournament, Iman Mohammadi (72 kg), Gholamreza Farkhi (87 kg), and Fardin Hedayati (130 kg) captured gold medals for Iran. Sajjad Abbaspour (60 kg) took silver, while Ahmadreza Mohsenzadeh (67 kg) and Abolfazl Mehdipour (82 kg) won bronze.
Other Iranian wrestlers — Armin Shamsipour (55 kg), Mohammadjavad Aboutalebi (63 kg), Ahura Bueiri (77 kg), and Mohammadhadi Seyyedi (97 kg) — did not reach the podium.
With a total of 143 team points, Iran’s U23 Greco-Roman wrestling team once again captured the world championship title, repeating its triumph from last year.
