While Iran has a long history of cultivating a type of rose known as the “Mohammadi Flower,” Saudi Arabia has registered it on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and Turkey is seeking to register the flower’s essence—known in Iran as Golab—under its own name in the European Union.

Avash News: Iran has been cultivating Mohammadi flowers for centuries and producing their derivatives such as Golab, a fragrant liquid used in cooking and the confectionery industry for making sweets, candies, and chocolates. Rose water, or Golab, is also a popular traditional syrup in Iran.

Iran is the natural habitat and center of genetic diversity of the Mohammadi flower in the world. The flower spread from Iran to the Ottoman Empire, and from there to Syria and later to Europe.
Safeguarding the Mohammadi flower and rose water as part of Iran’s cultural heritage is essential and considered a national responsibility.
