Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development has announced preliminary negotiations on connecting China to Europe through the Sarakhs–Cheshmeh Soraya electric train corridor.

Avash News: Farzaneh Sadeqi, who is visiting China to attend the second international conference on the China–Europe rail link, told reporters on the sidelines of the China–Europe Railway Forum: “Given the strategic and geopolitical position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region, the reports and discussions taking place at this forum will be highly influential.”
She emphasized that since China is a major source of freight, Iran can serve as a gateway for entry into Europe.

The minister noted that initial talks have been held regarding the launch of an electric train along the Sarakhs–Cheshmeh Soraya route.

Sadeqi added that bilateral and multilateral meetings would be held on the sidelines of the event, and that the Iranian delegation would visit China’s railway infrastructure and capacities.
“The important point is that the railway network in many countries has been the driving force behind their development. Given our country’s capacities—both along the North–South corridor and the East–West transit route—rail lines can significantly contribute to Iran’s growth and development,” she said.
