Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who is in the Netherlands to attend the 30th Conference of the States Parties to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, met with his Dutch counterpart, David van Weel.

Avash News: Bilateral relations between Iran and the Netherlands, as well as regional and international developments, were discussed during the meeting.

The two sides regarded the resumption of political and consular consultations as an important step toward strengthening mutual cooperation, given the recent visit of senior Dutch officials to Tehran.

Araghchi referred to the rapid developments in the international arena and the growing influence of aggressive unilateralism in international relations. He stressed the responsibility of all governments to uphold the rule of law and prevent indifference toward bullying and violations of international norms.

The representative of Sardasht was also present at the meeting. The Foreign Minister highlighted the suffering of the innocent people of Sardasht, who were victims of chemical attacks carried out by Saddam Hussein’s regime.

The Iranian Foreign Minister further emphasized the responsibility of European countries—including Germany and the Netherlands—that directly or indirectly contributed to equipping and developing Saddam Hussein’s chemical weapons program. He called for serious cooperation from these countries in support of an independent legal investigation into the individuals and entities involved in the former Iraqi regime’s war crimes against the Iranian people.
