The Vice President for Women and Family Affairs elaborated on the bill prohibiting violence against women in Iran, the latest developments on issuing licenses for women motorcyclists, and the departure of illegal foreign nationals from the country.

Avash News: Zahra Behrouz-Azar also stated that women’s presence in leadership positions has reached a record high in the administration of President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Behrouz-Azar said that “two wings are needed to ascend to the summits: the wing of women and the wing of men. In ancient Iran, during the Islamic Revolution, the war, and the Sacred Defense, women have always played a decisive role. One of our most important goals is to remove obstacles to women’s progress as a general policy,” she said.

Women’s presence in leadership roles sets a record in the 14th administration

She added that the appointment of women to leadership roles was one of the main priorities pursued by the 14th government from the moment it took office. “We witnessed President Pezeshkian’s efforts that led to the appointment of four women to executive positions in the government. The President himself has issued 21 executive decrees for women. Fourteen members of the Supreme Councils are women appointed by the President. Twenty-eight women serve at various levels as ministers, deputy ministers, and equivalent positions,” she said.

Iran will have its first woman governor soon

Behrouz-Azar said that Iran will soon appoint its first woman governor, adding that 28 deputy governors are already women. She expressed hope that the bill prohibiting violence against women will be ratified during her tenure in office.
The official noted that violence against women by men is 30 times more frequent than violence against men by women in Iran, which highlights the need for cultural reforms.

No legal barrier to issuing licenses for women motorcyclists

Behrouz-Azar stated that there is currently no legal prohibition against issuing motorcycling licenses for women. However, the process still requires practical measures, including establishing training centers, training female instructors, and appointing female officers.
“The Ministry of Interior is pursuing the issue around the clock. However, issuing licenses for women’s motorcycling requires cooperation and coordination with legal authorities, including law enforcement,” she said.

The official added that with the aim of improving women’s living standards, about 60,000 billion tomans have been allocated by the administration for unemployed women, working mothers, rural and nomadic women, as well as students.
Behrouz-Azar also emphasized that illegal foreign nationals must return to their countries. She said that employed foreign nationals must have work permits with clear oversight. “We need new immigration policies. We must identify our immigration needs in order to make use of their potential,” she said.
