In a letter to FIA on Saturday, the Iranian sports body expressed regret over the use of an unofficial term for the Persian Gulf, saying such a mistake contradicts professional reporting standards and internationally accepted principles of information.
Since ‘Persian Gulf’ is the only correct title for the body of water along Iran’s southern coastline, based on valid United Nations documents, authoritative global sources, and well-established historical records, the federation requested in its official correspondence with the FIA that the mistake must be corrected and that due care be taken in using correct geographical names in the future.
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Motorcycle and Automobile Federation, while emphasizing professional relations and constructive interactions with the FIA, also affirmed its commitment to protecting official and internationally registered names and to pursuing the issue through administrative, legal, and diplomatic channels.
In the past, some countries and organizations intentionally tried to create chaos by distorting the Persian Gulf’s name, which Iran described as hostile and provocative acts out of hostility and enmity towards the Islamic Republic.
