The caretaker of the Organization for the Development and Deployment of Modern Atmospheric Water Technologies has announced that cloud seeding will be carried out in Tehran and three other regions to strengthen research and laboratory infrastructures.

Avash News – Emphasizing that modern science rejects the possibility of creating or relocating precipitation systems, Mohammad-Mehdi Javadian-Zadeh stated that fertilization can only be performed when favorable atmospheric conditions already exist.

“Fertilization can only take place in suitable systems, and its purpose is to increase the efficiency of natural precipitation,” he said.

Speaking at the specialized session titled “Water or Mirage”, held on the sidelines of the International Water Industry Exhibition, Javadian-Zadeh reiterated that contemporary science does not support the creation or relocation of precipitation systems.

“What we do is intensify rainfall in systems that are already favorable for precipitation—not create independent systems,” he explained.

He added that the main challenge in cloud fertilization is distinguishing the effects of the operation from natural phenomena. He noted that this issue is a major subject of scientific debate worldwide, and that various assessment methods have been documented in reputable global references. “To avoid conflicts of interest in Iran, assessments are carried out by third parties and international scientific institutions,” he said.

Javadian-Zadeh also mentioned that cloud fertilization was first performed in Iran in 1997 (1376). “The technology was transferred from Russia. Since then, two aircraft have been equipped and several projects have been conducted,” he said.

According to Javadian-Zadeh, the World Meteorological Organization stated in 2024 that cloud fertilization operations must be performed at higher altitudes.
“In these areas, the risk is lower and the effectiveness is higher. Additionally, we are farther from urban pollutants that hinder precipitation,” he added.
