Araghchi: Tehran–Moscow relations are expanding comprehensively

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, stated on Tuesday during a meeting with Leonid Slutsky, Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Russia’s State Duma, that relations between Tehran and Moscow are expanding comprehensively.

Avash News: “The relations between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran are expanding in a comprehensive manner. We cooperate with each other in almost every field,” he said.

Slutsky, on the other hand, stated: “In our view, the volume of our trade today is several times lower than its potential, which is around 5 billion USD in foreign currency. I believe this figure should increase significantly in the coming years.”

He also emphasized that Iran and Russia have active cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS, and that the Iranian delegation’s engagement with the Eurasian Economic Union has also contributed to the expansion of bilateral economic relations.

Slutsky added: “In fact, over the past year, Iran has participated simultaneously in the three main economic integration blocs in which Russia is a founding member and an active participant.”

FM Araghchi in Moscow

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Moscow to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov and senior officials of the country.

Upon his arrival at Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport on Tuesday, Araghchi was welcomed at by Kazem Jalali, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia, and officials from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

During his visit, the top diplomat is scheduled to meet with a group of Russian scholars and thinkers.

He will also hold talks with some officials from the State Duma and the Federation Council on Tuesday afternoon.

Meeting with managers of institutions and diplomats at the Iranian Embassy will be on Araghchi’s agenda.

He is scheduled to deliver his speech at MGIMO University (Moscow State Institute of International Relations) on Wednesday.

Araghchi will hold official talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Araghchi and Lavrov will discuss international issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, and regional issues.
