The overnight attack of the United States on Venezuela and the abduction of its president in recent days has made top headlines across the globe.

Avash News: The destiny of the people of Venezuela is very significant for Iranians because of the years of strong political relations between the two nations.

It is good to review the various cultural memoranda of understanding that have been signed over the years between the two nations.

Iran and Venezuela have been strategic allies in the political world; based on this, several joint cooperation agreements have been signed between them.

These agreements also cover the field of art and culture and include comprehensive and long-term commitments.

The most significant cultural agreements date back to two years ago, when Iran’s then-Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance traveled to Venezuela. The agreements include a five-year comprehensive agreement as well as side memoranda of understanding in various fields, including cinema, media, books, and other cultural programs.

Cultural exchanges between the two nations became more serious beginning in March three years ago, starting with the unveiling of the Spanish translation of a book by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution called “Cell No. 14,” and continuing with the unveiling of the Persian translation of “April, Inside the Coup” by Ernesto Villegas Poljak, the Venezuelan culture minister.

On the sidelines of the program in the spring two years ago, Iran’s culture minister announced further planning for new cooperation in the fields of cinema, music, theatre, and beyond.

In addition to these, it was announced that Iran had signed agreements in the fields of “cultural communication,” “media and information,” and the “national library.”
Iran’s then culture minister, Mohammad-Mehdi Esmaeili, said that “a paper-producing factory is going to be established jointly with Venezuela, 80 percent of which has been completed.” The minister also stated that a private cultural institute was planned to undertake this on behalf of Iran.

The minister also referred to holding Venezuela’s cultural weeks in Tehran and Tehran’s cultural weeks in Venezuela, as well as exchanging media literacy courses with a focus on combating fake news as a top priority of their program.

In addition to these, the two nations were supposed to jointly produce a movie about marine transportation between Iran and Venezuela.
It was also announced that the weeks-long journey of five Iranian tankers along the long route from the Persian Gulf to the Caribbean to export Iran’s petroleum, regardless of security threats, would probably be the subject of the movie. However, no news has been released about such a joint production so far.

Alongside these agreements, the establishment of Iran’s cultural attaché in Venezuela and Brazil last May was another program in the field of cultural cooperation.

This information has been released while no significant achievements have been realized so far, and it is not clear whether these agreements were guaranteed to become operational after the 13th government headed by Ebrahim Raisi.
After Nicolás Maduro’s arrest by the United States, the nature of Iran–Venezuela relations has become ambiguous, according to some experts.
