Iran’s foreign minister has begun a visit to Lebanon aimed at holding close consultations with Lebanese officials on regional security challenges and ongoing threats.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Lebanon on Thursday afternoon to hold talks with the Arab country’s officials.

Speaking upon arrival at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that he will meet with senior Lebanese officials today and tomorrow, with a primary focus on discussions regarding regional developments.

He noted that the region is currently facing serious challenges and threats, emphasizing that these threats are particularly linked to the Israeli regime and are unprecedented in scale and intensity.

According to the Iranian foreign minister, over the past two years, seven countries in the region—including Iran and Lebanon—have been targeted by Israeli attacks. He further pointed out that parts of Lebanese territory remain under Israeli occupation and that the ceasefire established over the past year has been repeatedly violated.

Araghchi reiterated that the main purpose of his visit is to engage in close consultations with senior Lebanese officials regarding these ongoing challenges and threats.

He described Lebanon as a key country in the region, underscoring its important role in maintaining regional peace and stability. Araghchi added that Iran is currently holding consultations with all regional countries and that his visit to Lebanon is taking place at a particularly sensitive and important time.

Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, at the head of a political and economic delegation, left Tehran for Beirut on Thursday morning to meet with Lebanese officials.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the cabinet session on Wednesday afternoon, Araghchi emphasized that Iran is pursuing the expansion of relations with Lebanon, adding that economic cooperation will be a key component of the trip.
