Iran’s Foreign Minister to Leave Tehran for Geneva Today

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is scheduled to leave Tehran for Geneva on Wednesday evening to take part in the third round of indirect Iran–US talks.

Araghchi will head a delegation to Geneva, Switzerland, where the third round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States will be held, mediated by Oman.

After the 12-day war launched unprovoked by Israel and imposed on Iran by the Israeli regime, two rounds of talks were held between the two countries: one in Oman and the other in Geneva, both mediated by Oman.

The third round is more sensitive because it is happening amid a massive US military build-up in the Middle East.
US President Donald Trump, in his annual State of the Union speech on Tuesday, said that Iran must not build a nuclear bomb, BBC World reported.

Iran has repeatedly emphasized the peaceful nature of its nuclear program and said that the country is not pursuing nuclear weapons.
Inside the US, some analysts and military personnel, including Gen. Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, have also warned about the consequences of a war against Iran.

Araghchi arrives in Geneva

Araghchi arrived in Geneva on Wednesday night at the head of a delegation for the third round of Iran-US negotiations.

Araghchi and Al Busaidi met and held talks in Geneva on Wednesday evening, hours after the Iranian foreign minister and his accompanying delegation arrived in the Swiss city.

Their discussions focused on final coordination ahead of the negotiations between Iran and the US. Araghchi conveyed to his Omani counterpart elements of a possible agreement on Iran’s nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions.

The top Iranian diplomat is set to hold negotiations with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on Thursday. The negotiations, which are being held indirectly through the Omani foreign minister, mark the third round of such talks, following previous rounds held on February 6 and 17 in Muscat and Geneva, respectively. The first two rounds of the talks were also held indirectly through Al Busaidi.

Iran and the US are engaged in nuclear negotiations as Washington has ramped up its military presence in the region near Iran’s borders and has threatened military action should the talks fail to produce a deal.

Iranian delegation submits a proposal to the American side

According to Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the Iranian delegation has presented a proposal that, if rejected, would reinforce suspicions about the seriousness of the US team.

According to certain reports, the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, during the third round of nuclear negotiations, submitted proposals to the American side that would address all US pretexts regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
Failure by the White House to accept these proposals would be tantamount to confirming the initial suspicion that the United States is not genuinely committed to diplomacy and that its posture of seeking diplomacy is merely a “game.”

The proposal was conveyed to the American side through Badr Albusaidi, Oman’s foreign minister, acting as the mediator of the talks.

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson has also said Tehran that Iran has presented proposals centered on safeguarding its nuclear rights and achieving sanctions relief during the ongoing round of negotiations.

Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the Iranian delegation will attend the the talks fully prepared and committed to pursuing national interests.

He said the discussions are focused on nuclear issues, adding that Iran’s positions are clear both regarding the lifting of sanctions and the protection of its nuclear rights and interests.

According to him, Iran’s proposals in these areas have been conveyed to the Omani side as mediator.

The spokesperson reiterated that Tehran remains open to continuing dialogue while firmly defending its stated objectives in the negotiations.

He confirmed that the third round of indirect talks started on Wednesday night with a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart.

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency may also join the discussions, according to Baghaei.

Shamkhani: Iran could reach an immediate agreement in talks with the U.S.

A prominent advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader has suggested that Iran could reach an immediate agreement in talks with the U.S. if they focused solely Iran’s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons.

“If the main issue of the negotiations is Iran’s non-development of nuclear weapons, this is consistent with the Supreme Leader’s fatwa [religious declaration] and Iran’s defense doctrine, and an immediate agreement is within reach,” Ali Shamkhani wrote on X on Thursday.

He added that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has “sufficient support and authority” to come to a final agreement in the talks.

Negotiations pause, to resume later today

After three hours of negotiations, the Iranian and U.S. delegations left Oman’s embassy in Geneva for a break and consultations with their respective capitals.
Negotiations will resume later.

The Iranian and Omani foreign ministers met and exchanged views in Geneva today.

According to a statement, both sides examined Iran’s proposal aimed at reaching a deal on the country’s nuclear program.

The statement further reads that Badr Al Busaidi, Oman’s foreign minister, is committed to supporting dialogue to achieve an acceptable resolution.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States returned to the negotiating table eight months after Israel launched a war against Iran in the middle of the negotiations.
The U.S. delegation is headed by Steve Witkoff, U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy to the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law.

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is also present at the negotiations.

The Iranian delegation, headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, has held two rounds of negotiations so far.

Iran’s enriched material will not be taken out of the country

According to IRIB, the proposal to transfer Iran’s enriched material out of the country or to any other nation has been rejected.
Iran has reserved the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and will continue producing fuel.
The negotiations are expected to continue for another 2–3 hours.

Negotiations to resume next week

The Omani Foreign Minister has said that another round of negotiations between Iran and the US will resume at a technical level next week in Vienna.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi wrote in a post on X: “We have finished the day after significant progress in the negotiation between the United States and Iran. We will resume soon after consultation in the respective capitals. Discussions on a technical level will take place next week in Vienna. I am grateful to all concerned for their efforts: the negotiators, the IAEA, and our host, the Swiss government. «
