Martyrdom of Four Iranian Diplomats in Lebanon

Amir Saeid Iravani, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, wrote in an urgent letter to the UN Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, and the President of the General Assembly regarding the martyrdom of four Iranian diplomats in Lebanon by the Zionist regime:
“In the early hours of Sunday, March 8, 2026, the Israeli regime carried out a deliberate terrorist attack against the Ramada Hotel in Beirut, as a result of which four diplomats of the Islamic Republic of Iran were martyred.”
In the early hours of Sunday, March 8, 2026, the Israeli regime carried out a deliberate terrorist attack against the Ramada Hotel in Beirut, as a result of which four diplomats of the Islamic Republic of Iran were assassinated and martyred as follows:
Mr. Majid Hassani Kandsar (Second Secretary);
Mr. Alireza Bi-Azar (Third Secretary);
Mr. Hossein Ahmadlou (Attaché); and
Mr. Ahmad Rasouli (Chargé d’Affaires ad interim).
This horrific crime occurred following explicit and public threats by the Israeli regime. On March 3, 2026, the official spokesperson of the Israeli regime’s army publicly threatened that the official representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lebanon would be targeted. In response to this explicit threat and in order to ensure their safety and security, the Iranian diplomats were temporarily relocated from their official residence to the Ramada Hotel. The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran duly notified and coordinated this relocation with the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the framework of the host state’s responsibilities under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The targeted killing of four Iranian diplomats while they were serving as official representatives of a sovereign member state on the territory of another sovereign state constitutes a heinous terrorist act and a serious violation of international law.
The Israeli regime bears full responsibility for the commission of this war crime and must be held fully accountable for its consequences. I would be grateful if you would arrange for the present letter to be circulated as an official document of the Security Council and the General Assembly under agenda item 84, entitled “The Rule of Law at the National and International Levels.”
