In a statement on Thursday, the embassy said such claims were categorically false and stressed that the strategic waterway remains part of Iran’s defensive geography amid US-Israeli aggression against the country.
The statement said security conditions in the Strait of Hormuz have changed due to rising tensions caused by enemy forces and their allies. It added that safe passage through the waterway requires full compliance with regulations, attention to official warnings, adherence to designated routes, and coordination with relevant Iranian authorities.
Iran’s embassy said any failure to observe these requirements in an area affected by military and security tensions could lead to unforeseen incidents, with responsibility falling on those ignoring the realities on the ground.
The statement also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to ensuring maritime safety and security in the region in accordance with international laws and regulations.
According to media reports, an explosion and fire broke out Monday aboard the Panama-flagged cargo vessel HMM Namu, which was operated by South Korean shipper HMM and was carrying 24 crew members. US President Donald Trump, without presenting evidence, claimed Iran had fired at the ship.
