President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Iran and Tajikistan are bound by deep historical, cultural, and linguistic ties that go beyond relations between neighboring states, calling for broader cooperation in the political, economic, and security spheres during talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Tehran.

Meeting Rahmon on Friday after the Tajik president arrived in Tehran to attend the memorial ceremonies for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian thanked the government and people of Tajikistan for their condolences and support following the recent US-Israeli-imposed war against Iran.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Tajikistan are more than two friendly neighboring countries; they are two nations with shared cultural and civilizational roots,” Pezeshkian said. “Iran is the second home of the people of Tajikistan, and Tajikistan is the second homeland of the Iranian nation.”

Pezeshkian criticized Israel’s destabilizing policies in the region, saying the regime had long been a principal source of insecurity while attempting to portray others as responsible for regional instability.

He also said Tehran and Dushanbe should make greater use of their potential for cooperation in politics, trade, science, culture, industry, technology, and security.

Rahmon offered the condolences of the Tajik government and people over the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, saying Tajikistan shared the grief of the Iranian nation.

The Tajik president welcomed the steady expansion of bilateral relations, saying cooperation had grown across all sectors in recent years and bilateral trade had increased significantly over the past five years.

He added that the existing potential far exceeded the current level of relations and expressed Tajikistan’s readiness to expand cooperation in investment, agriculture, industry, road construction, transport, and other economic sectors while fully implementing bilateral agreements.
