The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, said that the Israeli regime's primary strategy is to create insecurity, division, and instability across the region. He stressed that Islamic countries must respond to these threats with greater vigilance, unity, and cooperation.

Avash News: Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with Nizar Al-Amidi, President of Iraq, and his accompanying delegation, who traveled to Tehran to attend the funeral and memorial ceremonies for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution. Pezeshkian expressed his appreciation for the Iraqi government’s and people’s condolences, sympathy, and support, describing them as a reflection of the deep historical, cultural, and religious bonds between the two nations.

Highlighting the special nature of relations between Tehran and Baghdad, the Iranian president said that the Islamic Republic regards Iraq not merely as a neighboring country but as a close and brotherly nation. He noted that the profound cultural, religious, historical, and social ties between the two peoples are so strong that geographical borders can never create a real separation between them.

Referring to the recent attacks by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, Pezeshkian described those actions as contrary to all recognized principles and norms of international law. He said the crimes committed—including the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, a number of officials, military commanders, and innocent civilians, as well as attacks on civilian facilities, educational institutions, and the country’s scientific and university infrastructure—constitute clear violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.

The president also pointed to what he described as the Israeli regime’s divisive policies in the region, saying that the enemies of Muslim nations have consistently sought to advance their objectives by fueling internal disputes and divisions. According to Pezeshkian, they oppose any progress, strength, or achievements by Islamic countries and seek to weaken the scientific, economic, and strategic capabilities of the Muslim world.

He added that the Israeli regime neither seeks the security of the region’s nations nor the stability and development of Islamic countries. “Its primary strategy is to create insecurity, division, and instability throughout the region,” he said. “Therefore, Islamic countries must stand together against these threats through vigilance, unity, and closer cooperation.”

Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of making full use of the broad potential for cooperation between Iran and Iraq. He expressed hope that, during future bilateral talks, all areas of joint cooperation would be reviewed and that the existing political will would help move bilateral agreements and understandings from the signing stage to practical implementation.

He also stressed that unity and regional convergence are essential for achieving security and sustainable development, saying that the peoples and governments of the region are capable of managing their own affairs and pursuing progress, prosperity, and stability by relying on their own capacities, without the need for foreign intervention.

During the meeting, Iraqi President Nizar Al-Amidi extended the condolences and sympathy of the Iraqi government and people over the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, a number of Iranian officials, and civilians. He said that the Iraqi people share in the grief of the Iranian nation and honor the memory of this prominent figure of the Muslim world with deep respect and sorrow.
Referring to the longstanding relationship between the two countries, the Iraqi president said that Iran-Iraq relations are rooted in deep historical, religious, cultural, and economic ties, and that these shared foundations place an even greater responsibility on both countries to further strengthen and expand their cooperation.

Recalling Baghdad’s position on recent regional developments, Al-Amidi said that the Iraqi government and people, at both official and public levels, have condemned the attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran and warned of their dangerous consequences for the region.
Praising the Iranian people’s resilience during the recent war, he said that Iran demonstrated remarkable determination in both the military and diplomatic arenas and successfully defended its national rights and interests. He added that this steadfastness has earned the respect of the region’s nations.

Al-Amidi further stated that recent developments have once again demonstrated that the security of regional countries depends on cooperation, solidarity, and mutual trust among the governments of the region, and that lasting security cannot be built on the presence or support of foreign powers. The recent experience, he said, proved that genuine security emerges from regional cooperation and constructive relations among neighboring countries.

Expressing optimism about the future of bilateral ties, the Iraqi president said he hopes the two countries will witness more productive meetings and consultations in the near future and that stronger security, economic, and regional cooperation will further promote development, prosperity, and well-being across the region.
