Avash News: The tree is estimated to be between 900 and 950 years old.
Seyed Javad Mousavi, director general of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts in Razavi Khorasan Province, said the ancient tree is a juniper species that grows along the southern slopes of the Alborz mountain range, stretching from Azerbaijan to Khorasan, particularly in the mountainous areas of eastern Iran.
“These trees grow wild,” Mousavi said, adding that the ancient tree of Joghatay is about 115 centimeters in diameter and 12 meters tall. Its shadow is approximately 10 meters long and 8 meters wide.
According to experts’ estimates, the tree is between 900 and 950 years old.
“The tree is of considerable value and grows in mountainous regions, mostly at elevations above 2,500 meters,” he said.
The species is highly resilient and adapts easily to different climatic conditions. It can live for more than 2,000 years and is highly resistant to diseases and parasites in the wild.
Juniper is also highly durable and was used in construction in the past because of its resistance to termites.
