President Masoud Pezeshkian has congratulated the National Day of Persian Poetry and Literature, praising the well-known Iranian poet Shahriar’s role in linking tradition with modern life.

In a message late on Friday to the conference commemorating the Iranian poet Shahriar on the occasion of the National Day of Persian Poetry and Literature, Pezeshkian said Persian, as a strong pillar of Iranian identity, has preserved cultural continuity through centuries.

Persian poetry reflects the spirit of the nation — from epic and wisdom to love, mysticism, ethics and the lived experiences of ordinary people, he noted.

He said that Shahriar, as one of the brightest poets of the contemporary era, united classical heritage with the concerns of his time, drawing on faith, history and people’s lives.

On September 18, Iran celebrates the National Day of Persian and Literature in memory of the highly respected contemporary Persian poet, Mohammad-Hossein Behjat Tabrizi, known as Shahriar. Shahriar’s work was distinguished by its political, social, and cultural insights, making him a significant figure in Iranian poetry and literature.
