In an interview with the Russia-1 television channel on Thursday, Khatibzadeh made these remarks while responding to a question about US media reports indicating that the upcoming Qatar-mediated negotiations had reached an impasse.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister also said that the policy and plan of the Islamic Republic of Iran are to strive to bring this crisis to an end through diplomacy, even though the other side has repeatedly betrayed the negotiating table.
He noted that over the past few weeks—following the United States government’s violation of the Islamabad agreement—while maintaining our defensive readiness at the highest possible level and remaining prepared for any scenario, we also endeavored, as a country that has consistently sought to avert regional crises, to present our proposals through intermediaries such as Qatar and Pakistan in response to inquiries that had been made.
Khatibzadeh said that among these proposals is the “seven-day resolution plan”—or the “seven-day initiative”—which is now widely known. We presented this plan to the American side via Qatar, and we recently received the other party’s views through the Qatari mediator and during the Foreign Minister’s brief stopover while returning from New York.
