Kesreq Esfarayen Castle, located in North Khorasan Province, northeastern Iran, dates back to the 5th century AH (11th century AD) and is among the historical sites preserving traces of the region’s medieval Islamic history.

Kesreq Castle was registered on Iran’s national heritage list in 2007 under No. 21226.

The historical site, which today appears mainly as a hill, contains remains of mud and adobe architecture, as well as pottery attributed to the medieval Islamic period.

Despite the disappearance of most of its original structures, the site remains of historical and cultural significance and offers visitors an opportunity to explore the history of northeastern Iran alongside the natural and rural attractions of Esfarayen city.

North Khorasan’s director general of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts said the architectural remains and pottery found at the site provide evidence of construction methods and the way of life of people in the region in past centuries.

He added that Kesreq Castle is believed to date back to the 5th century AH (11th century AD) and is considered one of the historical sites associated with the medieval Islamic period.
