Sergei Lavrov, in a press conference on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, underway in China, said that “Iran officially agreed to refrain from developing atomic weapons years ago, and even the IAEA has not presented any evidence reflecting the existence of such a program.”
Lavrov added that in his meeting with Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, they discussed a peaceful solution that respects the agreement reached with Iran.
According to Russia’s Foreign Ministry, the two sides talked about mutual interests in regional and international agendas.
The statement published on the website of Russia’s Foreign Ministry once again emphasizes “the significance of resolving the crisis of Iran’s nuclear program solely through diplomatic and political means in accordance with international law.”
Lavrov also said that member states of the SCO are committed to Iran’s legal right to have peaceful nuclear energy.
The U.S. directly intervened in Israel’s military aggression against Iran and violated Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The U.S. attacked three peaceful nuclear sites in Iran—namely Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—with its bunker-buster bombs. These facilities were extensively damaged, but no increase in the level of radioactive emissions has been reported.
