The Vice President and Head of Iran’s Department of Environment has warned of the serious and widespread consequences of the recent Zionist regime’s invasion of Iran in 10 letters sent to the United Nations, the United Nations Environment Programme, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the Ramsar, Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions, as well as the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Ansari stated that the attacks targeted regions near sensitive biospheres, energy facilities, oil reserves, and industrial infrastructure. The Department has warned that the leakage of chemical substances, contamination of air and water, irreversible destruction of ecosystems, and threats to public health not only endanger regional environmental stability but also pose a threat to global health.

The Department of Environment has called on the international community to officially condemn the targeting of Iran’s sensitive environmental regions during Israel’s recent imposed war on Iran. International entities have been urged to pursue international legal mechanisms and ensure compensation for environmental losses in accordance with the principle of “the polluter must pay,” as well as to implement coordinated international responses to repair environmental damage.

Ansari emphasized that the global environmental community must speak in a unified voice, declaring that no country has the right to endanger the health of the planet and humanity in pursuit of military objectives, and that preventing environmental damage during war is a shared international responsibility.

He concluded by stating that Iran reserves its sovereign right to defend its people, territory, and environment.
