In a meeting with his Armenian counterpart, Ali Larijani emphasized cooperation with the northern neighbor in completing the North–South Corridor and linking the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea. He also expressed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s appreciation for the economic, political, security, and defense aspects of its relations with Yerevan.
Larijani reiterated Iran’s support for peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan, outlining Iran’s vision for peace and stability in the region. He stressed: “Iran has always supported the independence and strength of regional countries in line with lasting regional security.”
Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, described the level of bilateral relations with Iran as unprecedented. He added: “Armenia is willing to sign a comprehensive strategic partnership with Iran in the near future.”
The Armenian official emphasized five principles: national sovereignty, respect for territorial integrity, application of national jurisdiction, the inviolability of borders, and the principle of reciprocity. He said Armenia is ready to provide any guarantee to reassure Iran of Armenia’s firm opposition to geopolitical changes in the region and to ensure that Iran–Armenia relations will remain unharmed.
He further noted that during the peace negotiations, one key point was carefully observed: Armenia’s exclusive authority over security, military, and customs affairs.
