French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, in a telephone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, expressed concern over rising tensions and stressed the importance of preserving dialogue and returning to the diplomatic path.
Iran’s Foreign Minister described the activation of the so-called snapback mechanism by European countries at the UN Security Council as lacking both political and legal basis, calling it a move that only fuels tensions and crisis.
Araghchi also emphasized the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program. Referring to the recent agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, he noted that “the Islamic Republic of Iran has always considered diplomacy as the only way to resolve international issues, including the country’s nuclear program, and is ready for any balanced and just resolution that guarantees mutual interests.”
The two sides also reviewed bilateral relations, including consular issues, and underlined the need to maintain contacts and consultations.
