A member of Iran’s Parliament has said that the issue of Iran’s withdrawal from the Non-Proliferation Treaty was addressed behind closed doors.

He said that a serious decision has not yet been made in this regard. “Representatives discussed the issue and exchanged their views,” he explained.

Therefore, Iran will still remain in the agreement.

The discussions over Iran’s withdrawal from the NPT intensified after the reinstatement of UN Security Council sanctions against Iran through the snapback mechanism. Iran regards the reimposition of UN sanctions as illegal.
According to a statement by Iran’s Foreign Ministry following the activation of snapback, Europe and the United States have broken their own commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The E3—Britain, France, and Germany—under U.S. pressure, did not vote against the reimposition of sanctions at the UN.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry described the move to trigger snapback as the death of diplomacy.
