Avash News: Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said that members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), representing more than 100 countries, have expressed support for Iran’s position rejecting the so-called snapback mechanism and reaffirmed the validity of UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
Speaking to IRIB on the sidelines of the NAM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Kampala, Uganda, Araghchi said the movement addresses a wide range of global issues, including economic, social, and political development.
He noted that “the final communiqué contains more than 1,500 paragraphs, and upon Iran’s proposal, several additional clauses were included—most notably the strong condemnation of the Zionist regime’s and the United States’ attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
According to the minister, the communiqué used terms such as “heinous” and “unacceptable” to describe the attacks, while also expressing solidarity with Iran. The condemnation was issued separately in the Kampala Declaration as well as incorporated into the final ministerial document.
Araghchi added that a specific paragraph was also dedicated to denouncing the attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, and another clause condemned the terrorist operation in Lebanon involving communication devices—an apparent reference to the recent pager incidents.
Highlighting a key point in the final document, Araghchi said, “A particularly important clause declares the NAM’s support for Iran’s stance on the snapback issue, emphasizing that Resolution 2231 remains in force and its timetable must be respected. According to paragraph eight, the resolution is due to expire on October 17 .”
He concluded, “This position aligns with that of Iran, Russia, China, and several other Security Council members, in opposition to the United States and certain European countries who claim that the snapback has been activated. The NAM’s stance effectively deems the mechanism illegal and confirms it has not taken effect. The resolution should therefore expire on October 18. This is a major diplomatic success for Iran, with more than 100 NAM member states supporting our position.”
