Araghchi: Iran Has No Hostility Toward Persian Gulf Countries

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated that Iran’s defensive response to U.S. military bases in certain Persian Gulf countries should not be interpreted as an attack on those states, but rather as a legitimate response to the source and origin of the aggression.

Avash News: Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of Iran, and Wang Yi, Foreign Minister of China, held a telephone conversation to discuss recent developments.
During the call, Wang Yi conveyed condolences on behalf of the Chinese government and people over the martyrdom of Ali Khamenei following the military aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran.
Araghchi thanked his Chinese counterpart for the message of condolence and briefed him on developments in Iran and the region following what he described as military aggression by the United States and Israel.
He stated that the United States and Israel had violated all principles and norms of international law in their military actions against Iran and had killed hundreds of innocent Iranian civilians. He emphasized the determination of Iran’s armed forces to defend the country’s national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the security of its citizens.
The Iranian foreign minister also referred to the killing of Iranian children, including 171 young girls at a school in the city of Minab, as well as attacks on hospitals, and stressed the responsibility of the international community to firmly condemn what he called unlawful military aggression and the killing of Iranian civilians.
Araghchi reiterated that Iran has no hostility toward Persian Gulf countries and remains committed to maintaining relations based on good neighborliness. He stressed that Iran’s defensive response to U.S. military bases in certain Persian Gulf states should not be regarded as an attack on those countries, but as a lawful response to the source of aggression.
Wang Yi expressed support for Iran’s defense of its sovereignty, independence, and dignity, and condemned what he described as unlawful aggression by the United States and Israel.
The two sides also discussed consular cooperation during the period of conflict.
