Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the Iranian people will not give in to pressure because they are Iranian.

Araghchi made the remark on Sunday in a post on his X account in response to US President Donald Trump, who according to his special envoy Steve Witkoff, is curious as to why Iran has not yet “capitulated” despite Washington building up its military capabilities in West Asia.

“Curious to know why we do not capitulate? Because we are Iranian,” Araghchi said in his post, which was accompanied by a picture of Iran’s map.

Witkoff made that remark on Saturday in an interview with Fox News.

The United States has been deploying military assets near Iran and has threatened the country with military action in recent weeks as part of a pressure campaign to force the Islamic Republic to curb its peaceful nuclear program.

Iran says diplomacy remains the only solution to resolve the nuclear standoff with the US. The two sides have held two rounds of negotiations aimed at reaching a deal so far this month and may hold a new round this Thursday.
