Millions of people flooded the streets of Tehran on Tuesday to bid farewell to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Seyed Ali Khamenei, and his family members, who were martyred on February 28, 2026, in a joint airstrike by Israel and the United States.

AVASH NEWS: More than 500 foreign media outlets covered the funeral procession of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, which drew worldwide attention as millions of mourners took to the streets.
Ayatollah Khamenei and his family members, including his 14-year-old grandchild, were martyred in a joint military attack by the United States and Israel on his residence in Tehran. The attack led to the outbreak of an unprovoked war that resulted in the deaths of many civilians, including 168 students in Minab, in Iran’s southern Hormozgan Province.

The funeral procession for Ayatollah Khamenei was so massive that foreign media outlets could not ignore it. Nearly all major media organizations, including CNN, The Guardian, Financial Times, and The Times, reported on the scale of the ceremony and the deep emotions of the mourners, many of whom broke into tears over the loss of their leader.
People chanted calls for revenge during the ceremony while also weeping and expressing their grief.
Images from the ceremony showed a sea of red flags waving in the air. In Muslim tradition, the color red symbolizes blood and signifies a desire for revenge.
The body of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was then transferred to the holy city of Qom, where people offered funeral prayers over the bodies for a second time.
The bodies are scheduled to be taken to the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday and then to Mashhad on Thursday, where they will be laid to rest.
The funeral procession for Ayatollah Khamenei has been described by many foreign media outlets as one of the largest funeral ceremonies in modern history and one of the largest ever held in Iran.
