In a phone conversation late on Sunday, the two sides consulted on the arrangements for holding the next round of nuclear talks which is to be held on Thursday.
Earlier, speaking with CBS News’ Face The Nation Moderator Margaret Brennan on Sunday, Araghchi said he would likely meet US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff on Thursday in Geneva, Switzerland, for a new round of nuclear negotiations.
He said that Iran was still working on a draft proposal to be presented to the American side, which Araghchi said would probably take place on Thursday, adding that a deal could be reached quickly between Tehran and Washington.
Meanwhile, Al Busaidi supported the negotiations and confirmed that a new round of talks between Iran and the US would be held in Geneva on Thursday.
President Pezeshkian also in a X message on Sunday said, “Iran is committed to peace and stability in the region. Recent negotiations involved the exchange of practical proposals and yielded encouraging signals. However, we continue to closely monitor US actions and have made all necessary preparations for any potential scenario.”
Iran and the US have held two rounds of talks this month on the Iranian nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions on the Islamic Republic. The talks, held in Oman on February 6 and in Switzerland on February 17, are the first such discussions since the 12-day war Israel launched in June last year, which the US joined later.
Amid the negotiations, the US has also deployed aircraft carriers and other military assets to the region, threatening Iran with military action.
