Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has categorically rejected the claims raised in the press statement of the Secretary-General of the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council ([P]GCC) regarding the performance of the Islamic Republic during the imposed US-Israeli war.

Baqaei pointed to the unlawful act under international law by some member governments of the ([P]GCC) in participating in the US-Zionist regime’s military aggression against Iran.

He emphasized Iran’s commitment to the principle of good neighborliness and respect for the national sovereignty of all its neighbors.

Despite acknowledging their legal-international obligation to prevent aggressors from using their territory and facilities to attack Iran, the official said, these governments not only took no action to prevent this, but some of them even actively participated in the military aggression against Iran, which, according to the UN General Assembly’s Resolution No. 3314, constitutes an act of aggression.

Therefore, these governments have effectively turned themselves into accomplices of the US and Israel in committing heinous crimes against the Iranians, he said.

Baqaei, also rejecting the contents of the press statement of the secretary-general of the bloc regarding the Strait of Hormuz, stressed that Iran, as the coastal state of the strait, has adopted practical arrangements proportionate to the objectives of defending itself against the aggressive actions of the US-Zionist regime and its supporters, as well as countering threats and the use of force against Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and ensuring safe passage — arrangements that are fully consistent with the relevant rules of international law.

Iran has always been a pioneer in building confidence among regional countries and has invited all to refrain from divisive positions and behaviors, the official said.

Confidence-building is a two-way path, he said, noting that the governments of the Council must take necessary steps to gain Iran’s confidence, said Baqaei.

This, above all, requires compensating for the losses and damages they have inflicted on the Iranian people through their participation in the US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic, as well as refraining from cooperation and complicity with Iran’s enemies, he noted.
