Iranian Legendary Vocalist Iraj Dies at 94

Hossein Khajeh-Amiri, widely known by his stage name Iraj, one of Iran’s most celebrated traditional music vocalists, died on Wednesday at the age of 94.

AVASH NEWS: Khajeh-Amiri had been suffering from health complications associated with old age, air pollution and other physical conditions in recent months. His health problems resulted in several hospitalizations during the past few months.
He was receiving intensive medical care at his home at the time of his death.
Born on January 1, 1933, Khajeh-Amiri became one of the most beloved voices in Iran’s traditional music scene. He was also famously known as the “Champion of Song.” Throughout his long artistic career, he performed more than 2,000 songs.
Following the Islamic Revolution, Iraj significantly reduced his artistic activities. However, he continued to perform occasionally and recorded two songs in the past couple of years.
His son, Ehsan Khajeh-Amiri, is also a prominent Iranian singer and songwriter, known for his work in pop music.
