The commemoration ceremony for the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, is underway in Iraq.

AVASH NEWS: Iraqi people warmly welcomed the bodies of the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and his family members, who were assassinated in a joint airstrike carried out by the United States and Israel on his residence in Tehran on February 28, 2026.
The week-long funeral procession for Ayatollah Khamenei began last Friday with the participation of foreign leaders and officials from around the world, who attended the ceremony to pay tribute to him and his family members.
The funeral then continued on Sunday and Monday, first at Tehran’s Mosalla and then along a route stretching from eastern to western Tehran, during which millions of mourners flooded the streets to bid farewell to their Leader.
The bodies of the Leader and his family members were then transferred to Qom on Tuesday. After another funeral prayer was offered for them in the holy city, attended by countless mourners, the bodies were transferred to Iraq at the request of Iraqi officials.
The bodies were warmly received by people in Karbala and Najaf, and another funeral prayer was held at the Shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and several members of his family—including his daughter-in-law, his daughter, his 14-month-old grandchild, and his son-in-law—were martyred in the U.S.-Israeli airstrike, which led to a war that lasted 40 days.
After 40 days of war, a ceasefire was established between Iran and the United States, and since then, efforts have been underway to bring the conflict to a permanent end.
However, the ceasefire has been violated several times by the United States, most recently with multiple attacks on Bandar Abbas in south of Iran the early hours of Wednesday.
